One plastic bag away...

I was thinking...if everyone in Malaysia used one plastic bag less a day, okay wait..let's minus out the babies and the oldies...so say...at the very minimum we have 22 million plastic bag users. So that'd equal 22 million plastic bags less a day, which = 671 million bags a month, and ~ 8 billion bags a year. That's more than the population of Earth!

Oh dear, it's amazing how these things add up isn't it? Saving one plastic bag a day means we'd save 6.6 billion plastic bags from a non-degradable life in a rubbish dump - if it even gets there. Most of the time they find their way to drains, rivers and my oceans don't they? And they tend to cause such problems to the wildlife too…=(

One plastic bag less a day doesn't seem like such a small thing now, does it?

Manic plastic bag users

What is it with some people? I've been poking my nose around some shopping centres and i see people asking for plastic bags for things like a water bottle or a Mentos sweet box when they already have like mega-huge handbags with them already..like...!!??? what's up with that? They're going to put that plastic bag in their handbags anyway...

The uprising...

So I’m sitting here, juggling the rising temperatures up north and trying to convince the Pandas to procreate, and suddenly, before I can say Atmosphere, some big ship decides to spill oil all over my beautiful ocean.

I mean, enough is enough, alright? You all just don’t realise that I’m starting to lose it. I’m a patient kinda girl, and I’m extremely reasonable (and thank goodness for the greenie folks) but I can’t seem to clean out faster than you’re dirtying me.

I don’t like to be confrontational (the Tsunami last year was something that HAD to happen; earthquakes are a natural phenomenon) and I usually don’t demand for things, but no one seems to be listening! I’ve been dropping hints like crazy, and my fellow scientists and environmentalists have published article, after article, after article, and issued millions of warnings, but does anyone listen? NO!

I mean, I don’t expect everybody to be a greenie. All I’m asking for is a little bit of consideration, a little thought for me before you go and destroy me even further. It takes very little effort and quite frankly, I’m tired. I don’t know how long I can hold up anymore. As it is, all my wonderful, natural sources of water are going down the tube. Pretty soon, people will have to pay an arm and a leg for clean water....crazy innit? All it takes is a bit of effort and maybe then, I might sustain...

But I am hopeful, because as I said, there are some good people out there who’re fighting for me (bless ‘em!) And I know that they’re getting the hints and trying to spread the word. I must say, they’re damn creative about it too, like this Art fest thing that they’re doing. And this year’s theme is about my precious, precious water. They’re getting these artsy people to express my water woes, through their own eyes. I hope they don’t just show-off my bad sides. Hopefully, they’ll show off all the pretty stuff too, like my Pacific ocean, or gorgeous xxx that should be preserved and admired for a long time to come…

I’m trying to keep the faith y’know? And I’m hoping that all of you will discover this Art Fest and join-in the fun. Can you imagine like a whole bunch of people getting together to celebrate me? Oh, how exciting!

Here’s a toast to the festival, may it be heard and seen far and wide! Cheers!
